Let’s Travel

A personal trip plan instead of hours of scattered searching.

Four decisions that came from testing, not opinion.

Status
Tested prototype
Problem
Planning a group trip to a new country, amid endless scattered information.
My part
End-to-end product design: research, ideation, UI and testing.
Key decision
Removing the hotel confirmation page from the first flow instead of polishing it.
Evidence
4 of 5 participants didn’t understand the page in qualitative testing.
Result
A tested, revised prototype after two design-and-test rounds. Not launched.

The challenge

Users don’t reject planning. They reject the one-size package, and lack time to plan from zero.

Research

From interviews to patterns.

Interview notes clustered in an affinity map.

The flow

From four choices to a full plan.

  1. 01Destination
  2. 02Budget & dates
  3. 03Trip type
  4. 04Generated plan
  5. 05Edit & add
  6. 06Save & follow

Red elements mark the key transitions.

Design decisions

What testing changed.

  1. 01Hotel booking out of the first flow

    Problem
Four of five users didn’t understand the hotel confirmation page.
    Decision
I removed the page instead of polishing it; it wasn’t part of that moment’s decision.
    Result
A shorter flow and lower first-use load.
  2. 02“Add place” outside the image

    Problem
A + over the photo read as “add a photo”.
    Decision
I moved it outside the image with explicit text.
    Result
    The confusion disappeared.
  3. 03Structure from card sorting

    Problem
It wasn’t clear how users expect content organised.
    Decision
An open card sort; sections built on what recurred.
    Result
Navigation shaped by users’ model, not mine.

Before and after

When a user asks “what am I supposed to do?”

The problem is the design, not the copy. Five test sessions stopped a decision I was confident in.

Outcome

A complete prototype, built on what users said.

My first UX project, and one principle stayed: test before you’re convinced. If I redid it, I’d build both languages from the start and test earlier at lower fidelity.
